wtf is going on with our attribute system

i know our attribute system is a mess but can someone explain this:

th with 458 attribute on his weapon stabing me for 620+ dmg when i got 460 resist points to his element. if i drop my resist points to 350 he stab me for 500 dmg. so wtf is going on ? i mentioned this some months ago about a mage class but noone seemed to understand/care about it.
