Title: Offline shops
Post by: deiwidaz on March 18, 2010, 01:33:13 PM
Are we gonna have offline shops like Frintezza servers does? Cause its very useful.

For those who dont know what it is. I buy a scrool for 10k. Put shop to sell and write ~offline, my client is turned off but my shop is open.

nice idea , but I think there could be not enough room in Giran/Aden etc for all ppl who will open oflline shops. :)
For example  if somebody has 10chars. will open 8 offline shops ...:)

From experience I know that offline shops are nice thing, but on official servers where u have to pay for every account. When you can make it for free all will create 20 dwarfs and make store with them.... Best example of this sh!t is L2dreams where "online" number of players is 3000-4000, half or even more are offline shops.

Why it is bad idea?

because as all we know

giran lower grade shops (d, c, etc.)
aden high grade shops (a, s, etc)
hunters village books shop (not anymore since we have hellbound but...)
and if we have offline shops there will no more online ppl
all villages' will be empty

Why you need them online when they are selling mats and etc? What the diferance when you leave chars selling and go to work and etc and when you put offline shops?

Look... when u want to make offline shop, you are opening store and exit game. Than when I have changeable IP (I have) change IP and run next account and next offline shop and again again again. Loader which "prevent" multi account wont work, its usefull when u have game turned on. Offline shops are good ONLY at official servers as I said.

P.S  The only way to reslove this problem is make quest item which would be buyable for very big price and lets you to make offline shop (Offline trader license or smthlike that xD), no1 will buy many of them :)

Whats the problem with this? If here will be offline shop, maybe here will be 4k online too. If the half of them offline shops? Who the freak cares? It not means more or less real player. And whats up with ppls, who cant use dual box for shop, cuz they have shit computer?

Offline shop still a great idea, +1 for it.

you think a shop with 0 incoming and outgoing packets, and no activity, will be hard for the server? :D

Well not the transmission between the computers, you right there.
But still the server itself has to work and transmit informations. If I'm wrong there, make me smarter ;)

I agree too much transmitted information could make the server lagged... villages will be lagged i think.

don't worry about the traffic that is between computer and server this is not our job and the traffic is lazy.
more ppl = more CPU usage, SQL usage & RAM :)

these servers arent peer to peer things, so there is no transmission between computers, just between the server, and a clients. And the packets only sent to client about a char, if that char's state changes (moving attacking, etc), but when someone just sitting as a shop, then if a player comes into visible range on them, they get a char info packet from server (one charinfo packet can contain multiple char infos, cuz usually not just one char should be visible when you go close to them). This packet contains, info about the graphical attributes (race, armor, weapon, xyz coordinates, name, title and the private shop title if the char is in private shop, and even about attack speed and speed (but you cant see this in l2 clients, just in some bot clients that are show those attributes). The infos about the items in shop, only sent by server when the player want to see the private window (requestprivatestorelist, privatestorelist). So the charinfo packet for private shops mean few bytes for each shops in traffic, but just ONE time for each players, when the shops loaded. That's not much. Not using SQL too, cuz these player infos are cached in memory, and because they haven't got activity, they don't use much cpu time too.

The server lagging always because of bugged, unoptimized(more computations than they should be) untested features, drop item fields, and ofc bcuz of nice downloading with server :D

You actually consider, if there will be offline shops, while we don't even know when server will start? And to be honest, I don't think that players will have any affect on that if there will be offline shops or not.
