I can't get the dn patch to go in the game folder
the original system folder is set read only, and when I change it, it doesn't stay changed! as soon as I try to put in the patch or delete it, it comes up read only again! wtf???

but it never gave me any trouble before, installed and ran the game fine for both IL and HB, now all the sudden, nothing but trouble...
I discovered I can MOVE the system folder...
so, if I move it to desktop, I can delete it from there... if I then make a system folder that is not read only, and move the individual files into it, would that work?
edit... nevermind, that's not it, all folders are read only:/
so why won't the dn patch go into the game folder properly?
every time I try, the system folder part doesn't work, I get a long list of "could not create (xxx) acess denied" messages...
Run launcher as admin. I've always had to do so with vista. Also make sure you runing sp2 fully updated. Also make sure you have all the .net framework versions. Also make sure ur vid drivers are up to date.
none of those were the problem... it was one file in system that would NOT let me overwrite it... but I figured it out, got it going...
can't see Arena on login screen, but noticed Shadow was there... tried it, and sure enough, it was Arena!!

The only reason your server list would show up as freaked up is if you used l2encdec to decrypt your l2.ini and modify it and then reencrypt it. Or somone sent you a walker modified l2.ini.
For example, when Dragon was still IL and using the bakeice launcher, I had to use a workaround that made only my server show up, in this case Dragon, the other 3 servers were not on the list. Since they switched to HB, they no longer use a bakeice launcher so walker works normally again.
the file that gave trouble (with installing the patch) was not l2.ini
and it was the file that installed with the client I just downloaded from gamershell
as for the messed up server list, that is possible, as in order to log in I used the 2 files from the link in this thread
I just hope that the web server will be up soon, I really want to do a full check :/

one in client was 1.17 mb, one in dn patch is 1.21 mb)

l2.ini controls what you see for a server list.
anyone actually get this figured out i just installed and used patch and same problem... o well for making a return i guess.
this is what happened to me, and what I did:
installed client, tried to put in dn patch... got long list of "acess denied" messages
tried several times, finally ending up with one file that had not overwritten, the msxmL4 one mentoned above
could not delete it, so moved it to desktop (are several files with similar names, so be sure to get the right one)
moved the one from dn patch in to replace it (btw, I had unzipped to a file on desktop to make this easier)
at this point I could get to login screen, but couldn't log in yet, so I used the two files from danilo
now I can login , but the server select screen shows Arena as Shadow... I can live with that ;D
(also ended up with that file sitting on my desktop... it still will not delete)

that's what I thought.. but it didn't work. as long as that file was there, it wouldn't delete. Any folder I move it to, won't delete. (I've tried)
and running the launcher doesn't do any good untill we can do full check again... is it fixed now? (just got up and havn't checked on that yet :D)

It holds the value after read from the ini. So ultimately l2.ini controls that. Which also explains why his server list was freaked.

that just sounds backwards to me... makes much more sense that the ini file takes the
data it needs to
initialize the game from the
data file, which stores
data untill it is needed to run the game.....
seems to me that what cheaters are doing is changing the ini file to alter the way it
uses that data
... but then, it would have been the ini file that got updated, wouldn't it? sigh guess I 'll never understand it...
any more than I can understand why ppl cheat at games in the first place

L2.ini is a file that initialites the game, nothing more. L2Walker uses an altered l2.ini because the client isn't L2walker. I dont know how it works, but Im 100% sure the server list is taken from servername-e.dat.

try to put readonly attr to otehr files - you will see they don't change on every lineage start
L2.in i is harcoded name for main INI file of unreal engine (file being used can be changed with command line parametrs)
inside ih has: some sections containing
IP and port of server (login)
paths
Video / sound / network parametrs
and some other ENGINE (unreal common) setting up parametrs
names of lineage servers on login screen, names of items, NPC have no connection to Unreal game and is stored in other dat / ini (and others) files

Like I said. ServerName-e.dat does hold that info. But It`s read from l2.ini. When this info changes on the ini, it will write to the dat on next launch of the game. The ini also holds various other values which are writen either to other files or to memory. Hense it being an initialization file.

hmmm... since my l2.ini did not get changed by the loader, and my servername-e.dat did, if the l2.ini I got from the forum was what changed the server names, why didn't it change them again when I ran the game?

Decrypt your l2.ini and find out. For all you know, dragon network comments those lines out. Also keep in mind you're the one who brought up the whole thing about the ini file.

hm,
if i wanted to edit lineage fonts, i'd start with studiing l2font.utx, l2font-e.utx (texture files) and Uwindow.u (unreal engine file, it has some font changing/settign functions) files

I'll bot all I want. It's not really an insult to me. Takes more skill to program my bots than to play manually like a chump. Like i said pvp is fun, everything else isn't. I can't be bothered to do those things, so I don't.
